Founded in 2018 by Sophie Marie, Das Biest Performance Project is a dance-based art group. All of our staff and dancers are Queer Identified and/or disabled artists. We seek to create space for marginalized artists a place to create the Strange and Weird. Our work focuses on themes of folklore, queerness and horror. We have made several, self-produced dance films that have been seen through the Annual Barefoot Collective Film Festival. We have also performed at the Seattle Center’s Artist at the Center and self-produced many site-specific dance works. We are located in Tacoma, WA.

- Commitment to Accessibility -

Das Biest Performance Project is proud to employ an entirely disabled staff. Our first steps towards accessibility in our work has been to support our staff. We have done this in both the daily operations of the company as well as in our rehearsal/creation process. All of our daily operations are performed virtually, and we have a hybrid style rehearsal schedule. We also begin each rehearsal with a body check in to be able to better tailor our work to each dancer’s specific needs.

We also work to make all of our work accessible to audience members. We do this by keeping all in-person performances and workshops prices to $10 suggested donation. We provide all of our work for free via youtube, our website and host virtual premiers for all of our film work. We make sure all of our in-person performance locations are easily accessible to wheelchair users and those with other physical disabilities. Finally, we provide masks and have air purifiers at all of our in-person performances.

The steps we have taken thus far is just the beginning. We are committed to growing our accessibility accommodations for both our staff and audience members as we grow.
